N.C. Finds a State Rep.

Already a good tournament, the Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce Disc Golf Open (June 9-10) was even better with the USDGC Performance Flight spot on the line, says North Carolina PDGA Coordinator Robert Leonard.

He commended Archdale’s disc golf club including tournament director David Milikan and the tourney’s main sponsor, the chamber of commerce, for putting together an event that went the extra mile.

A local beauty queen was even on hand to present the check to the open division winner, Leonard noted.

“It was very well deserved that they got that (USDGC spot) added on to their tournament,” said Leonard.

Earning the USDGC invite was intermediate player, 923-rated Stephen Williams of Charlotte, who bested his projected score by 10 strokes for the four-round tournament.

Leonard said the USDGC spot keeps players engaged even if they’re not in the lead card of their division.

“They still have something to play for that last round,” Leonard said.

Some players came just for the Performance Flight spot added Leonard, who believed Performance Scoring worked for the state representative spot because it mirrors the USDGC format and it’s fair with multiple divisions.
