Freeman & Richmond lead US Dubs

A duo from the northeast part of North Carolina lead the U.S. Amateur Doubles Championship by two strokes after the first two rounds in Charlotte.

Billy Freeman of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Rick Richmond, of Nashville, N.C., shot a 47 (-11) at Hornets Nest during a best shot round and a 61 (-3) during the alternate shot format at tough Nevin Park.

On their heels are Ken Tyburksi, of Chatham, Va. and Robert Leonard of Raleigh, N.C., who shot a 51 (-7) at Hornets Nest and a 59 (-5) at Nevin.

Tournament director Bill Jacobson also noted that the doubles championship had its first female competitors, Genevieve Belanger of Concord, N.C. and Tammy Gegoski of Charlotte.

The final round is Sunday in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Winthrop Gold Course with a captain’s choice format. Look to PDGA.com for tee times.
