If there was ever a place to shine, this is it. If there is ever a place to get punished for shots gone astray, this is it..

Back ups of your favorite discs

Witnhrop Gold surrounds a lake, and 5 of the holes play along the lake. While we have folks to fish discs out, they can’t get all of them, so if your favorite driver goes for a swim, make sure you have a backup.

Rain gear

Weather in the Carolina’s is generally incredible in October. It is hurricane season however, so rain cannot be ruled out. Winthrop Gold is a long and fairly open course. If are caught without an umbrella, be prepared to get drenched.

Shorts, pants, long sleeves, short sleeves, jackets, etc.

Be prepared for a wide range of conditions. Morning tee times can be cool and damp. Rounds later in the day can be a good bit warmer, but also windy.

A car if possible

The tournament hotel will have plenty of people going to and from the course, but don’t always bank on a ride. Always get to the course in plenty of time to warm up and still make your tee time. To compete with the big boys you’ll need to be as prepared as possible. Having all your gear at the course is almost a necessity.

Waterproof socks

The grass is covered with dew first thing in the morning. Fairways are cut before every round which removes the dew but few rounds are played without avisit to the rough. Waterproof socks will help then and in the case of rain.

Money

While we try to cover as much as we can, there are always going to be expenses like food, gas, etc. Don’t be a mooch. Budget wisely or bring plenty of cash.

Umbrella

Definitely worth lugging around if the prediction is for 20% chance or greater.

Towels

Every shot at Winthrop is demanding. A dirty or wet disc just isn’t an option.

Positive Attitude

Keeping a positive attitude on the Gold Course can be easier said than done. It’s a pressure situation on a course designed to challenge everything you’ve got. Even the best players will kicked around a little at Winthrop. Always remember to be patient and have fun. Introduce yourself to someone you haven’t met. Invite a player from another country out to dinner. Just getting here is worthy of a big smile. Thank the volunteers. They’ll appreciate it.
